Manali is the one place where the vehicle genuinely matters. Anything past Solang — the Atal Tunnel, Sissu, Koksar — needs a car that is comfortable on gradients and a driver who has done the road recently, especially between November and March when conditions change day to day.

Day trips from Manali

• Solang Valley — roughly 13 km.
• Atal Tunnel and Sissu — roughly 25 km to the tunnel mouth, further into Lahaul beyond it. Subject to weather and closures.
• Rohtang Pass — roughly 50 km, and it needs a permit. Ask us well before the day.
• Naggar and Manikaran — the castle at Naggar, and the hot springs at Manikaran roughly 80 km out.

Leaving Manali

• Manali to Chandigarh — roughly 310 km, about 8 to 9 hours.
• Manali to Delhi — roughly 540 km, usually overnight.
• Manali to Shimla — roughly 250 km.
